How to Stay Focused

One of the things most critical to home business success is defining one’s goals. We are continually reminded to write them on paper, giving ourselves a deadline to meet them, so that we can remain focused on our ultimate dreams.

One of the most important things for the success of a private company is defining its objectives. We are constantly reminded to write them down on paper and set a deadline to fulfill them so that we can continue to focus on our last dreams.

Mantain the Focus

We need to have them in front of us at all times to maintain the motivation that is often required to overcome difficult points in our business.

Wallace Wattles writes in his 1910 classic “The Science of Getting Rich”:

“You have to have a clear and definitive image of what you want. You can only convey an idea if you have it yourself … That clear mental image that you have to constantly have in view … the clearer and then you make your image clearer, and the more you think about it and highlight all its adorable details, the stronger your desire will be. “

Does this mean that you have to spend hours thinking about your end goal? Of course, no. It simply means that you need to know exactly what you want and want it so badly that it stays on your mind.

Personally, I have taken this advice very seriously. Regardless of your goals, you can use the same method to maintain your own focus.

Let me explain.

My ultimate goal is for my husband and I to be able to retire to the area I grew up in, the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I have a very accurate picture of what life will be like for us there, and every day I take a few minutes to close my eyes and look at the mental picture of some of the things we can enjoy.

Walking on the beach at sunset and feeling the warmth of the sand on my bare feet (I can practically smell the salty air)

Peaceful shopping in quaint downtown Ocean Springs, Mississippi, just a few minutes’ drive from the exciting casino in neighboring Biloxi

Reconnect with friends and family and enjoy meetings that I often missed because I lived far away

Dine at local restaurants that serve the delicious seafood the area is famous for

I could go on and on, but you get the (mental) idea!

To take this step further, I have put together some photographs, postcards and other mementos that reflect the general atmosphere of the area. These items hang on my wall in front of me in my office so I can always remember what I’m working on.

I am in awe of the effectiveness of these simple techniques!

You can use the same methods regardless of your goals. Even if what you are working on cannot be clearly defined in words and pictures, you can still benefit from these exercises.

During those few minutes a day you set aside to form your mental “picture”, imagine the feelings you will have when you have achieved your personal goals. Create a confirmation statement using your computer and attractive printable stationery. Please frame this and post it in your personal workspace so that you are constantly reminded of exactly what you want to achieve.

Focus, focus, focus … and your dreams will come true!
